Happy Fiber Friday! Today I’m here to share 5 of my favorite things about Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton with a little yarn review!
I’ve been wanting to add some more Fiber Friday posts to my blog to share my favorite yarns with all of you! If you’ve been following my blog, you know how much I love talking about yarn, so I’m obviously super excited about this segment! It’s basically a yarn review with all of my honest opinions, plus research and information about the fiber, and some project inspiration!

When I did an Instagram story poll recently, the majority of voters said they haven’t tried 24/7 Cotton, so I’m here to share everything that I know and love about this yarn for those of you who have never tried it before. And if you have tried it and love it like I do, you’re in the right place! On the other hand, if you’ve tried this yarn before and maybe you weren’t so sure about it, I’ll provide some information and project inspiration to help spark your imagination!
I fell in love with this yarn from the moment I wrapped it around my crochet hook! The feel of your crochet hook gliding through the yarn is amazing, the stitch definition is breathtaking, and the sheen adds a special touch of luxury to your work.
Now, let me tell you all about this yarn and why it’s one of my favorites!
1. Mercerized Cotton
24/7 Cotton is a mercerized cotton yarn, making it a little different than your average cotton yarn. Mercerization is a chemical process that makes the fiber more durable, lustrous, and more receptive to dyes. The result? A super strong, luminous yarn with a bold, vibrant color.
Mercerized cotton yarn is also sometimes referred to as “pearl/pearle” cotton due to its bright and shiny nature. In my opinion, this yarn has a similar appearance to silk! While the mercerization process makes the yarn stronger and shinier, it also causes it to lose some of its softness. However, this yarn isn’t rough to the touch at all. It has a very soft feel and is great for “soft” items like blankets, garments, baby clothes, shawls, hair accessories, and everything in between. Plus, another benefit is that it gets softer through washing and wearing! It’s machine washable and dryable too, making it super easy to care for your finished items.
My favorite thing about this mercerized cotton yarn is the stitch definition that it provides. The sheen and color adds depth to your stitches and makes it fun to play around with new, unique crochet stitches.
2. Beginner Friendly / “Chainette” Structure
This yarn has the perfect weight and structure for crocheters of any skill level! It’s one of the yarns that I recommended in Part 1 of my Beginner Crochet Guide – Building Your Crochet Kit. I recommend this yarn for beginners because it’s worsted (medium) weight which makes it easy to use, and it has a chainette structure that keeps it from separating.
“Chainette” just means that the yarn itself is literally made up of little chains, while most yarns are made up of plys that are twisted together. Have you ever been working on a project and the plys keep separating after every other stitch you make, leaving a bunch of annoying little loops hanging out? You won’t have that problem with chainette yarn, which makes it a dream to crochet with!
And this benefit goes beyond beginner crochet; if you’re working with super intricate stitches or large projects, the chainette structure will help keep your work neat and tidy the whole way through. Lion Brand has quite a few other chainette yarns such as, LB Collection Chainette Yarn, and Re-Spekt Yarn.
3. Color Palette
The first thing that drew me to this yarn was the gorgeous selection of colors. From beachy blues to bright pops of color to sultry neutrals, this selection makes putting together a sophisticated palette for your next project a breeze!
My go-to choices are all the beachy blues and greens (Dragonfly, Jade, Mint, Aqua, & Succulent), the vibrant oranges and yellows (Amber, Tangerine, & Goldenrod), and the rich and creamy neutrals (Ecru, Camel, Taupe, Coffee Beans & Café Au Lait). With over 30 colors to choose from, this color selection provides the perfect palette for everyone.
4. Affordable
I’m always on the hunt for the best deals on yarn! And I know that the best quality yarns are typically much more expensive. Lion Brand is one of my absolute favorite fiber companies because they offer high-quality yarn at super-affordable prices (and they almost always have a sale running for yarn & crochet kits)! This yarn is currently $4.99 full price for a 100g skein!
5. Versatile
You can make SO many different projects with this yarn! It’s the perfect yarn to keep in your stash and grab whenever you have a sudden burst of inspiration. This yarn is great for everything from summer garments and hair accessories to home decor. Plus, the beautiful stitch definition makes it fun to try out different stitches and more intricate patterns. Keep reading for some project inspiration and links to some amazing crochet kits!

Project Inspiration
Looking for some project ideas to go with mercerized cotton yarn? I’ve got you covered! As I said before, this yarn can be used for so many things! I couldn’t give you a proper yarn review without showing the yarn in action! So, here are some current projects I’m working on, along with a few stitch suggestions.

I’m currently using this yarn to make a cute little dragonfly bandana (you can find the tutorial here!) and a set of placemats for my dining table. I’m hoping to write a pattern for the placemats, but I need to perfect the design a little bit first.
Stitch Suggestions
One of my favorite stitches to use with this yarn so far is the linen stitch. This stitch makes it super fun to incorporate colorwork into your projects and experiment with different combinations from this yarn’s lovely color palette.
On my first attempt to make a placemat (shown above) I was using the color, Ecru, as a neutral base and adding stripes of my favorite colors. While I’m happy with the overall look of it, I wasn’t LOVING it the way I wanted to. On my second attempt (shown below) I tried alternating between thick and thin stripes of color, and OMG, the result is so pretty! If you’ve ever wanted to try out a super cool striped pattern, this yarn + the linen stitch is the way to go.

It’s also fun to try a variety of unique stitches together to emphasize the incredible stitch definition in this yarn. You can still use simple stitches, like double crochet and single crochet, with a little extra flair! Some ideas that come to mind: front post double crochet to add a bit of texture, V-stitches to make a lacy design, or some shell stitches to create an elegant look.

Here’s a little peek at another project I’m working on using this yarn! I’m writing a new pattern for a summery headwrap that incorporates picots and a variety of other stitches. This headwrap is the perfect example of how neat it can be to mix different stitches together for a unique textured look.
You can find the free crochet pattern for this headwrap here: Hammada Headwrap
While I’ve only tried this yarn for home decor projects and hair accessories so far, I’m dying to make some garments and bags with it. Crochet bags are so on-trend right now, and this color palette is perfect for making a big, beautiful beach bag, or a unique motif/granny square bag with subtle pops of color. Thankfully, LB has tons of crochet kits to accompany this yarn, created by some of my favorite super-talented designers.

Crochet Kits
Now that I’ve given you my yarn review for 24/7 Cotton, here are all of my favorite crochet kits straight from Lion Brand’s website. It was so hard to narrow down my faves with so many gorgeous designs available. And the best part is, most of these kits are only about $20-$30 and include the pattern and all of the yarn you need *heart-eyes*
These patterns are all on my need-to-make list!
Overall, I absolutely love this yarn, and it’s great for making high quality crochet goods without breaking the bank! I hope you found this post helped to answer some of your questions and/or inspire you! Let me know in the comments below what you think of this yarn!
Thank you so much for reading my first ever yarn review!
