You can wear your finished piece as a bralette or bikini top paired with your favorite bikini bottoms or jean shorts. This was one of the very first tops that I ever designed. I made the first one while on vacation in Maui so I’d have something cute to wear all day while exploring the city and the beaches. It’s still one of my favorite designs to wear because it’s so comfy and versatile!

Yarn:
I designed this bikini top crochet pattern using Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn. I prefer using 100% cotton or hemp blends to make these tops because they tend to be more sturdy and durable than other fibers which is essential for creating a bralette with more support. Of course, you can substitute with any worsted-weight yarn. I especially love Lily Sugar n’ Cream because they have a variety of beautiful colors. It’s always been my go-to yarn for making tops!
MORE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Bernat Handicrafter is a perfect substitute. It’s 100% cotton, worsted-weight, and comes in various pastel, bright, and neutral shades.
Dishie from Knit Picks is a super close alternative. It’s 100% cotton, worsted-weight yarn that comes in a huge variety of solid colors and multicolored blends.
Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted is another one of my favorite substitutions. This yarn is made from 100% recycled materials and comes in a variety of gorgeous shades.
You can also visit yarnsub.com for a full list of alternatives!
Sizing:
This bikini top crochet pattern is available in women’s sizes XS, S, M, L & XL. I have included instructions for making larger or smaller sizes at the end of the pattern to help you adjust this pattern for ANY SIZE! You can also adjust your size by using a different crochet hook.
One ball of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn (2.5oz) is enough to make any of the sizes listed on this pattern! You should also have enough yarn left over to add fringe to your top! These tops look especially cute with a little fringe on the bottom. Instructions for adding fringe are included at the end of the pattern.

Size-Inclusivity Statement (8/13/23):
This pattern does not align with my size-inclusive standards. I am working to update this design, and other old designs to ensure that all of my garment patterns accommodate bust sizes from 28” to 62” at the least. My goal is to create a space where everyone is included and has the ability to make anything that their heart desires. You can read more about my values here.
I know this update is long overdue and maybe too little, too late. I really dropped the ball by not making all of my patterns size-inclusive from the beginning. I’ve learned so much more about sizing and grading in the past couple of years, and every garment pattern that I’ve published since then has been fully size-inclusive, including made-to-measure styles and pre-sized styles in sizes XS-5X.
I want to apologize to anyone that has ever come across any of my older patterns and felt excluded. There is no excuse for having patterns available in my shop that don’t include EVERYBODY, especially since I always offered a size range from XXS to 5X for my customers when I was making these tops as made-to-order finished products. By failing to accommodate all sizes, I was basically offering incomplete patterns. I’m honestly ashamed of myself for leaving these incomplete patterns up for so long. I know that updating these patterns doesn’t make up for the fact that I left so many people out in the first place.
I am taking these updates seriously, and I am taking the time to make my old patterns fully size-inclusive. That means, I’ll be doing much more than simply adding on a few extra inches and calling it a day. I want to ensure that my patterns fit all sizes properly and offer special features and modifications for larger/smaller sizes when necessary.
Re-release Information: Noelebelle Crochet is my side-business and therefore my family and my main job are my priorities. I will be working on re-publishing this pattern as time permits, but I do not currently have a re-release date scheduled. I will be updating this blog post and posting updates on my social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Threads) when I have more information on the new and improved pattern.
Side-note: By updating these patterns, I am also hoping to bring awareness to an important issue within the fiber arts community. I am constantly learning and evolving my business. I always strive to improve my designs and patterns. I am open to criticism, I am open to feedback, and I am open to listening to your stories. If you would like to reach out regarding this pattern, or to share your experiences with me, please feel free to contact me.

XL Rows 19 – 22: Ch 2, turn. Dc into each st. (34)
Cut the yarn and fasten off. Once both cups are done, continue to finishing instructions.
Finishing Instructions:
- Weave in yarn ends.
- Then, ch about 200 (220-250 for M, L & XL) to create the back strap.
- Before attaching the back strap, lay the cups side-by-side in order to ensure they’re both facing the same direction. [I prefer to have the last row facing wrong-side up.]
- Using your yarn needle, attach the strap along the bottom of the cups by weaving it through the sts.
- Adjust your top until the cups are centered along the back strap.
- [Optional] If you’d like to attach beads to the straps, do so at this point.
- Finally, tie a knot at the end of each strap and cut the tails off.

Adding Fringe:
Information is listed in the following order: XS (S, M, L, XL)
- Cut 24 (28, 28, 32, 32) pieces of yarn, measuring about 14-18” (35.5-45.5cm) each.
- Grab 2 of the yarn pieces and fold them in half, making sure the ends line up evenly.
- Starting at the middle of your top, insert your crochet hook through the 3rd st along the bottom of a cup.
- Then, pull the folded yarn pieces through the st just enough to create a loop. Reach through the loop with your fingers, grab the yarn tails and pull them through.
- Make sure your ends are still lined up evenly and pull on the yarn tails until the knot is secure.
- Continue attaching fringe along the bottom of the cup. Skip 3 sts between each piece of fringe.
- Repeat steps for the other cup. Finally, trim the fringe along the bottom to make sure the ends are straight.

Additional Sizing Adjustments for the Bikini Top Crochet Pattern:
Smaller than XS:
- To make your top smaller than the listed sizes – first, refer to the Base Pattern.
- Use a smaller crochet hook (4.0mm)
- You might want to start with a shorter chain. Only ch until you’ve reached the desired length of your neck strap.
- Follow the Base Pattern rows. Once you’ve reached the desired width of the cup, stop at that row.
- Add one row of dc’s to the bottom of the cup. For example, if you stopped after completing row 10 the last 2 rows of your pattern will look like this:
Row 10: Ch 2, turn. Dc 7. 2dc in the next 2 sts. Dc 7. (18)
Row 11: Ch 2, turn. Dc into each st. (18)
- Finally, continue with the finishing instructions. You may want to make a shorter chain for the back strap.
Larger than XL:
- You might need an additional ball of yarn depending on how large you make the top.
- To make your top larger than the listed sizes, complete the Base Pattern first. You may want to make the starting chain longer by continuing to ch until you’ve reached the desired length of your neck strap.
- Next, complete the XL Pattern through XL Row 18.
- Continue to add “increasing rows” by adding 1 dc to each side of the row and 2dc into both of the middle sts. For example, by following this pattern your next row will look like this:
XL Row 19: Ch 2, turn. Dc 16. 2dc in the next 2 sts. Dc 16. (36)
- Once you’ve reached the desired width of the cup, stop adding “increasing rows.”
- Add 3-4 rows of dc’s to the bottom of the cup, or as many as you need to reach the desired length.
- Finally, continue with the finishing instructions. You may want to make a longer chain for the back strap.
