#handmadeholidays gift idea!
This cute little crochet ornament is perfect for baby’s first Christmas and will be a keepsake that your family will cherish forever!
These booties are undoubtedly the most adorable handmade holiday gift for all new parents! You can also pair them with my Spring Beanie Crochet Pattern (available in 8 sizes, including preemie & newborn) to make the cutest little baby gift set.
This baby ornament crochet pattern is beginner-friendly and works up super quickly. So, you can easily whip up a few of these to sell if you’re running a booth at a holiday craft fair! If you’re looking for more quick and easy projects to make for holiday gifts and markets, you can also try some of these popular patterns: Velvet Scrunchies, Coffee Cup Cozy, Cozy Ribbed Headband.
This pattern is a great stash-buster project! It’s perfect for using up yarn scraps, and you can get creative with it! There is no specific yarn that you have to use. Make your booties in one solid color, use a different color for the cuff, or come up with your own unique color pattern! Keep reading for some more creative ideas and check the MATERIALS section for a few yarn recommendations.
These blue & white booties in my crochet pattern sample photos were made using Paintbox Yarns Simply DK in Seafoam Blue and Paper White.
Some cute & creative ideas:
- Use a fuzzy yarn for the cuff (such as Lion Brand Chenille Appeal or Go Handmade Bohème Velvet)
- Combine your yarn with a strand of glitter thread for a sparkly/festive look (such as Hobbii Diablo Glitter or Go Handmade Party Deluxe)
I made this pair of sparkly booties for my baby’s 1st Christmas in 2020. Since she was born less than two weeks before Christmas, I made a matching pair as a gift for my amazing obstetrician for helping to bring my beautiful baby into the world. ♡
The sequin yarn I used was purchased ages ago, and while I’ve looked for it at every yarn store imaginable, I can’t find anything quite like it. For a similar look, my best suggestion would be to combine your yarn with a strand of Go Handmade Party Deluxe yarn.
Here’s another festive idea created by one of my lovely pattern testers, Meisha. Change colors after every round to create your own Christmas-y elf booties!

Or anything in your stash of scraps!
Most of these lovely yarns listed above are available at LoveCrafts.com!
Other: One ornament hook, scissors, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge & Finished Measurements:
GAUGE: 1” x 1” swatch = 6 sts x 4 rows, worked over HDC
The gauge and final measurements for this pattern are not that important since it will not actually be worn.
For reference, one of my finished booties is about 1.75″ x 1″ x 1.5″ (length x width x height) using the recommended materials in this pattern.
You can adjust the size of your booties by using a larger or smaller crochet hook and thinner or thicker yarn. Use a larger crochet hook and/or thicker yarn to make larger booties. Conversely, use a smaller crochet hook and/or thinner yarn to make smaller booties.

Baby Booties Ornament Crochet Pattern Photo Guide:
Here’s a step-by-step photo guide to demonstrate how to crochet your baby booties.
Next, make a long chain (ch about 70). Leave long enough tails at the beginning and end of the chain to tie onto each bootie.
Cut the yarn and FO. Then, tie a bow in the middle of your chain.
Tie one end of the chain onto one of your booties. Then, repeat with the remaining end for the second bootie.
Note: first, insert your crochet hook through the top back part of the cuff and pull the yarn tail through. Then, fold the cuff up and attach the yarn tail to a stitch under the cuff. Finally, tie a secure knot.
I’ve included some extra photos below to clarify how I tie the knots. I used a different color of yarn so you can see where the yarn tail is attached to the booties. This method will help keep the chain secure, and the knot will be hidden once you fold the cuff back over.
Weave in the remaining yarn ends.
Finally, attach an ornament hook through the middle of the bow.
You’re all done!
